From ICISWiki
I'm Richard Bruskiewich, Senior Scientist, Computational and Systems Biologist in the Crop Research Informatics Laboratory at IRRI).
My main work at the moment is with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded project to engineer C4 photosynthesis into rice (http://c4rice.irri.org.
Previously, I was involved significantly in the development of the International Crop Information System ICIS and on its deployment for the International Rice Information System IRIS. I focus in particular on the next generation software development of the system for managing genomic information and for web publication of data, using a platform based on the Java programming language.
In the Generation Challenge Program, I also led the Task 2005-22 of Sub-Program 4 - Domain Models and Ontology for the Generation CP - as well as Task 2005-31 - Development of a Comparative Stress Gene Catalog and Gene Orthologue Display Tools. I am the former PI and current key collaborator on the Task 2005-24 - Web Service Application development, and also work heavily in the Task 2006-08 - SP2 Data Analysis task.
At IRRI, I also previously focused on the bioinformatics analysis of cereal (mainly rice) genomics information. In particular, I am (in 2007) coordinating IRRI efforts in the analysis of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) data analysis (see The OryzaSNP web site).
