Jump to: navigation, search

Most pedigree nursery lists are stored in MS Excel files in a variety of formats. But since the spreadsheets are more prone to data lost and modification, it is useful to convert a regular MS Excel file into ICISworkbook. Once the file was converted, it can still use MS Excel as data entry interface.

In this exercise, you should be able to import a pedigree nursery list from an MS Excel spreadsheet into a SETGEN List.

1. Start SETGEN from the ICIS Program Launcher.

2. Click List ► New ► List on the main menu located at the upper left corner of the SETGEN interface.

3. Enter “TESTIMPORT” as the Name of the new list.

4. Enter “IMPORT GERMPLASM LIST” as the Title of the new list.

5. Select the Type “LST” and check if the Date is correct.

6. You can now save the list. Select List Save on the main menu.

7. Select List ► Import List ► Basic on the main menu.

8. The Basic Import of Germplasm List window (Fig. 1) will appear.

a. To import the germplasm list, click the [Browse] button and open “UDS03-07 F5.xls”.You can find the said file from the directory C:\ICIS5\Document \TDM\II Users Manual and Training Material\C. Breeder's Training Course\13 16_Importing Nursery Lists\UDS03-07 F5.xls.

b. Under the GMS Variable Parameters section (see Fig. 1), select “DESIGNATION” for the Designation.

c. Leave the Cross field blank.

d. Select “PLOT” for the Entry Code.
