ICISworkbook: Generating a statistical design on a fieldbook for a replicated yield trial

In this exercise, you will prepare a design on a fieldbook for a Replicated Yield Trial (RYT).

1. Click Add-ins ► Generate RYT Fieldbook.

2. In the Open Template window, select the file "URYT-Template.xls". This file can be obtained from the directory C:\ICIS5\Documents\TDM\II Users Manual and Training Material\C. Breeder's Training Course\08 12_Replicated Yield Trials.

3. Enter "U06WSRYT" in the Search field at the top portion of the form (Fig. 1).

4. Double click "ENTRYCODE -> ENTNO" (located at the List - Workbook section in Fig. 1) mapping to delete it.

5. Select "ENTRYID" and "ENTNO" (in the Setup Mappings section). Then, click the [Map] button.

6. Create the Randomizaton Layout file by clicking the [Create] button (Layout File - Workbook section in Fig.1).

7. The Randomization  and Layout window (Fig. 2) will appear.

a. Enter "Upland Replicated Yield Trial - Siniloan 2006 WS" as the Design Title.

b. Select "Alpha Lattice (max. 500 traits or 1000 plots)" as the Design Type.

c. Specify "25" for the Number of Entries, "2" for the Number of Replications, and "5" for the Number of Plots per Block. Click [OK] to generate the design. The randomized design will be saved in C:\ICIS5\MyLayout.xls.

8. The layout file will automatically be entered in the Generate RYT form.

9. Set up the mappings of the Layout file in the workbook.

a. Select "TRIAL" from the Layout column and select "TRIAL" from the Workbook column. Then, click [Map].

b. Select "PLOT" from the Layout colum and select "PLOT" from the Workbook column. Then, click [Map].

c. Select "NREP" from the Layout column and select "REP" from the Workbook column. Then, click [Map].

d. Select "ENTRY" from the Layout column and select "ENTNO" from the Workbook column. Then, click [Map].

e. Select "BLK" from the Layout column and select "BLOCK" from the Workbook column. Then, click [Map].

Note: DO NOT map the PLT column from the Layout file.

f. Click [OK].

10.Click the [Description] tab at the bottom of the Workbook to go to the Description sheet.

a. Enter "Yield test of 20 advanced lines" for the OBJECTIVE.

b. Enter "20060801" for the START DATE.

c. Enter "20061111" for the END DATE.

d. Under the VALUE column and on the LOCID row of the CONDITION section,  enter "10123" (10123 is the IRIS LocID for Siniloan).

11. Click File ► Save As from the MS Excel menu. Then, enter “U06WSRYTFB.xls”.

12. Click File ►Open from the MS Excel menu. Then, select the file “Amount Harvested.xls” which can be retrieved from the directory C:\ICIS5\Documents\TDM\II Users Manual and Training Material\C. Breeder's Training Course\08 12_Replicated Yield Trials.

13. Select the block of data under the Variate column AMOUNT HARVESTED in the Observation sheet of the file Amount Harvested.xls and paste them under the Variate column AMOUNT in the Observation sheet of the file U06WSRYTFB.xls.

14. On the ICIS Workbook menu, click Study ► Load to upload the data to the DMS local database.
