Mission The Crop Research Informatics Laboratory (CRIL) will contribute to the common CIMMYT and IRRI institutional mission of promoting food security and material livelihoods of resource poor farmers and consumers with reference to the production, distribution and consumption of the world's three main staple cereals - rice, maize, and wheat - that collectively represent over half a billion hectares of global food and feed production.

Areas of Specialization

- The Biometrics Team is committed to developing new mathematical and statistical methodologies and applying them to solve the problems IRRI and CIMMYT researchers face. The Team has an international reputation in the field of biometrics and statistics applied to the agricultural and biological sciences. It works with all of IRRI’s and CIMMYT's research programs. The Biometrics Unit provides research support, consultation, and training to IRRI, CIMMYT and national agricultural research programs. It conducts fundamental research in close collaboration with other research programs, universities, other research centers and institutes of excellence around the world.

- The Bioinformatics Team was established to cater to its clients with the most recent rice research and training on priority trait gene discovery. The Team aims to deliver public goods to national and international partners by enhancing accessibility to rice genome information in collaboration with advance research laboratories in countries and regions such as Japan, the USA, and Europe.

- Design, software development and technical support for worldwide users of the International Crop Information System (ICIS). ICIS is a database system that provides integrated management of global information on crop improvement and management for individual crops and for farming systems.
